Part of 'The Welsh Group 8 Shows 2024 / 25  a year-long project which brings the group to a wider audience and provides a snapshot, mid-decade, of the work being produced in artist studios across South and West Wales…

As artists we gather memory sensations, specific observations and feelings. Sometimes this results in works containing dreamlike, disembodied spaces. Some artists delve into the European tradition of chromatic intensity and others into Eastern sensibilities… Each artist presents a series of entrancements.

8 Shows: The Welsh Group 2024/25

In the Autumn I will be curating ‘Things Seen / Unseen’ at BayArt Cardiff - part of 8 Shows:The Welsh Group

Artists: Glenys Cour, Heather Eastes, Mary Husted, Maggie James, Philip Nicol, Gerda Roper

“8 Shows,” a year-long project which brings the group to a wider audience and provides a snapshot, mid-decade, of the work being produced in artist studios across South and West Wales…

Welsh Group: 8 Shows’, which runs through to April 2025, takes place in eight spaces across South and West Wales in collaboration with Queens Street Gallery Neath; Studio Cennen in Ffairfach, Llandeilo; and Oriel Canvas, West Wharf Gallery, Bay Art, in Cardiff. Each exhibition in this cycle of eight shows has a different focus: from how we represent time in the Neath show, to ‘Where we are now,’ - the second show - which looks at the way the pandemic has changed how we understand our own mortality. Other shows explore the spirit of place - how a subject is often beyond the surface of things; and making work about memory. These exhibitions focus on work that relates to interior architectural spaces, but also out of the gallery and in an environment where objects are in a dialogue with nature.’ Paul Edwards The Welsh Group

BayArt Christmas Show 2023

An exhibition of 30 paintings, drawings by members and associates of Butetown Artists.

Curated by Caspar White

‘Walking Dream 2’ has not been exhibited in a gallery before, but it was placed in the hallway of the beautiful fictional house of the Anchor-Ferrers family, during the filming of the tv drama series Wolf.

Wolf was a six-part British television miniseries, based on the Jack Caffery novels by Mo Hayder. It was made for BBC One and BBC Wales. ‘ highly compelling – if not for the faint of heart’.

‘Celf Gwyrdd’ 2023

‘How green is my art?’ Welsh Group summer exhibition

Mid Wales Art Centre, Caersws, Powys, SY17 5SB 9th July - 3rd September 2023

A mixed show of paintings and sculptures by members of The Welsh Group. ‘Many responses are quite explicit because some of the artists here work with and in the natural environment, using recycled materials or responding to landscape. Other work in this show is more implicit and takes a sideways look at environmental issues’ Paul Edwards, Chair of The Welsh Group.

Pleased to be showing five Chinese ink and watercolour drawings, on large vertical sheets of paper. All the materials are biodegradable and originate from natural materials - the ink from burnt cedar cones and the paper from rice.
